Sometimes I just need a good pick me up. I am grateful for these three "pick me ups" that Justice Clarence Thomas gave during his luncheon remarks at the recent JRCLS Annual Conference.

1.
“Old man can’t is dead. I know. I helped bury
him.” Justice Thomas stated that this
was a quote that his granddad always said and he now has it in his chambers.
2.
Do well so you can do good.
3.
Mother Teresa’s Do Good Anyway poem. (I went on the internet to find it.) The
version I found, written on the wall in Mother Teresa's home for children in
Calcutta, was the following:
People
are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them
anyway.
If
you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be
kind anyway.
If
you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine
enemies.
Succeed
anyway.
If
you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be
honest and sincere anyway.
Create
anyway.
If
you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be
happy anyway.
The
good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do
good anyway.
Give
the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give
your best anyway.
In
the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It
was never between you and them anyway.
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to hear after enduring my first trial yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThank you to all the leaders of the JRCLS Women in the Law sections, you provide such a wonderful service to all of us women attorneys.
Thank you for your comment. CONGRATS on your first trial -- that is huge. Be sure to make it a journal event. You are now building the foundation of being able to mentor others. Those thoughts and feelings that you have now will be helpful to someone else in the future - possibly some daughters.
DeleteI know it may seem silly but your comment that my taking the time to write this was what someone needed was exactly what I needed to hear after just finishing a client audit. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.
