Understanding the World of Work

Written by Eileen Doyle Crane

Doing research becomes a lawyer’s main response to almost any question, no matter how remote.  However, one topic of research that may remain outside of many women lawyer’s realms is discovering the research about the world of work, specifically for women.

Catalyst, a “nonprofit membership organization with a mission to expand opportunities for women and business….dedicated to creating more inclusive workplaces where employees representing every dimension of diversity can thrive,” has an extensive library of research.

There are webinars, reports, and strategic planning for career advancement. There is information about how to network, how to find a sponsor who will promote a woman’s career, and creating executive shadowing programs.

Information gathered from around the world from a variety of work settings is compiled and analyzed to ascertain the status of women in leadership and management in business and the professions.

We already know our own situations, however, we may be able to better determine how we want to manage our careers if we understand the larger picture in which women professionals work.  I think you will enjoy reading about the research at: http://www.catalyst.org/what-we-do/research

Enjoy!
